Raised from a family of musicians, Jinbo is a multifaceted artist whose distinct style sits in direct contrast with the rest of Korea’s overcrowded music scene. Having collaborated with critically acclaimed Korean artists (Epik High, Drunken Tiger, and Dynamic Duo) it was ultimately his debut LP, Afterwork that allowed his talent to truly standout.
From the first listen, it’s evident that Afterwork was baptized in Motor City oil and cooked to perfection. ”One night stay / In my room” is a quirky ode to hookups, with drum patterns and harmony fitting for Slum Village, while “U R” is filled with soulful compositions that blends effortlessly with Jinbo’s lyricism. Having personally produced, mixed and written all of the songs on the album, Afterwork is a beautifully illustrated musical portrait that captures the true essence of the artist’s life against a J.Dilla-esque backdrop. As the winner of R&B/soul Album of the Year at Korea Music Awards in 2010, Afterwork has solidified Jinbo as the happy-hour don of the genre. Most recently, he has returned to the lab to work on his next album and a bevy of international projects.
